Crafts Gallery at a glance
The Crafts Gallery is located on the west side of Kitanomaru Park in central Tokyo. Visitors can see beautiful exhibits of the finest traditional Japanese crafts made by both modern artists and those of the past. Items on display include lacquerware, pottery, and dolls.
Constructed in 1910, the building itself was the old headquarters of Japan’s Imperial Guards. The Neo-Gothic structure is one of the few buildings remaining in Tokyo built before the Great Earthquake of 1923. The gallery is run by the nearby National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
