Hama Rikyu Garden

Hama Rikyu Garden at a glance

Hama Rikyu Teien, aka the Detached Palace Garden, is one of Tokyo‘s most beautiful gardens. Formerly known simply as Hama Rikyu (Beach Palace), it was used as private hunting grounds by the Tokugawa Shoguns.

Fortunately, Hama Rikyu has been turned into a public garden for everyone to enjoy.

The traditional garden against the towering skyscrapers of the Shirodome business district make a great contrast of the old and new.
