Japan Folk Crafts Museum at a glance
Located in Tokyo, the Japan Folk Crafts Museum was founded in 1936 and is housed in a beautiful traditional Japanese building.
The museum has more than 17,000 pieces of all kinds of traditional Japanese crafts. There are also some items from China, Korea, England, and Africa.
The Japanese term for folk art, mingei, was developed by the founder of the museum and the place has been a center for promoting traditional Japanese crafts since it was established. The collection includes everything from pottery and lacquerware to dolls and glass work.
